The Kafue National Park

Spanning over 22,000 square kilometers, Kafue National Park is Zambia’s largest and oldest national park. Kafue is one of Africa’s most remarkable wildlife sanctuaries. Renowned for its incredible biodiversity, the park has an astonishing array of wildlife, including large populations of elephants, lions, leopards, cheetahs, and the elusive African wild dog. Kafue is also one of the few places visitors can witness the rare and majestic sable and roan antelopes in their natural habitat. The park’s diverse ecosystems, ranging from vast grasslands and riverine forests to the iconic Busanga Plains, support over 500 bird species, making it a haven for birdwatchers and nature enthusiasts alike. Kafue’s ongoing conservation efforts, led by the Department of National Parks and Wildlife in collaboration with key partners, aim to protect this extraordinary landscape and ensure that future generations can continue to experience its untouched beauty and rich wildlife heritage.
